Aside

Privacy Policy

Aside is a savings-goal app built by an individual developer, not a company with a data business model. This page explains, in plain language, what the app collects, why, and how you can see or delete it at any time.

Who this is

Aside is developed by Thomas Amara, an individual based in the United Kingdom. I am the data controller for the personal data described below — there is no separate company, and your data is never sold or shared for advertising.

What Aside collects

Account information. If you create an account, Aside stores your email address, or your Apple ID identifier if you sign in with Apple (Apple can hide your real email behind a private relay address — Aside only ever sees whichever address you choose to share). You can also use Aside without an account, in local/guest mode, in which case no account data leaves your device.

The data you enter. Aside's entire purpose is tracking money you choose to tell it about: savings goals, amounts resisted or saved, expenses, income, and the labels or dates you attach to them. This is stored so it can sync across your devices and survive a reinstall — Aside never connects to your bank or card, and nothing is scraped automatically.

Photos (optional). When logging something you resisted buying, you can attach a photo from your camera or photo library. This is entirely optional and only happens when you actively choose to add one.

Subscription and purchase information. If you subscribe to Aside Premium, the purchase is handled entirely by Apple's App Store. Aside and its payments processor (RevenueCat) receive confirmation of your subscription status and entitlements — never your card number or full payment details, which Apple never shares with developers.

Device and diagnostic data. Aside uses Sentry to automatically collect crash reports and error logs, and PostHog to collect basic, aggregated product-usage analytics (for example, which screens are used, so I know what's worth improving) — this does not include the financial figures or content you enter, and is never used to identify you personally or sold to anyone.

Push notifications. If you enable reminders, your device's push token is stored so Aside can deliver them. You can turn reminders off at any time in Settings.

Face ID / biometrics. If you enable the optional app lock, Face ID or Touch ID authentication happens entirely on your device via Apple's own APIs. Aside never receives, sees, or stores any biometric data.

How it's used

Aside does not use your data for advertising, does not build an advertising profile of you, and does not sell or rent your data to anyone, under any circumstances.

Who your data is shared with

Aside relies on a small number of infrastructure providers to function — each only receives what it needs to do its specific job, and none may use your data for their own purposes:

Aside may also disclose information if required to by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of users or the public.

How long data is kept

Your account and app data are kept for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account (Settings → Delete account, inside the app), your data is permanently deleted from Aside's database. Aggregated analytics that can't reasonably be tied back to you may be retained for product-improvement purposes.

Your rights

Wherever you're based, you have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your data. In practice:

Children's privacy

Aside is not directed at children and is not intended for use by anyone under 13. I do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13; if you believe a child has provided data to Aside, please contact me and it will be removed.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that matters, the "last updated" date above will change and, where appropriate, I'll let you know in the app.
